For more than 170 years, the activities of the Kunstmuseum Basel have been documented by various types of records and via different carrier media. The material created during this time forms an indispensable basis for the work of the museum. It also forms the basis for the way in which the Kunstmuseum is able to provide information within the framework of the public access principle of the Canton of Basel-Stadt.
On the basis of the Information and Data Protection Act of the Canton of Basel-Stadt (IDG), all persons are entitled to access the information contained in the documents of the Kunstmuseum Basel. Likewise, the handling of as well as access to information is regulated on this basis.
Anyone wishing to obtain information must submit a request in which the desired information is described in detail. On this basis, the Kunstmuseum Basel examines the documents in question within three weeks and makes the requested information available, unless private or public interests conflict with access. Information can be provided in different forms. If it makes sense to view the documents on site, they will be made available in the Special Reading Room of the Library. It is necessary to make an appointment for this purpose during the opening hours from 10am to 6pm. Consultation of documents and information is sometimes subject to conditions, the knowledge of which must be confirmed in a corresponding Revers.
