The Kunstmuseum Basel’s collections comprise ca. 4,000 paintings, sculptures, videos, and works of installation art, as well as the ca. 300,000 drawings and prints from seven centuries held by the Kupferstichkabinett. Obviously, we cannot present more than a small fraction of these treasures at our three venues.
A considerably larger selection is available through our Sammlung Online (Collection Online), which provides quick and easy access to the works, grouped by periods and artists, as well as carefully researched background information.
The database currently contains almost all of the paintings, sculptures, installations and videos in the collection. The drawings, watercolours and prints from the Kupferstichkabinett's holdings are continuously being digitized and made available. If you are interested in works that are not listed online, please contact the Kupferstichkabinett's study room. With its constantly expanding range of offerings, the Collection Online is not only an indispensable tool for art historians, but also offers all art enthusiasts a virtual journey through art history.
